MAT AND STUDIO EQUIPMENT CLASSES

Yoga Mats

MAT

My Mat classes are mixed ability, mostly based on the mat, working the whole body with some standing work. Stretch bands, small balls, weights, toning circles and foam rollers are often used within a block  of Mat  Classes.
Within a class all ranges of movement will be looked at, focusing on good alignment
and sequential movement, connecting with the deep stabilising muscles of the body.
They are suitable for all ages and ability.
12 is the maximum number in a class so i am able to see everyone and come round and make corrections if necessary.

STUDIO EQUIPMENT

These are usually either one to one sessions or with 2 or 3 others.  Sessions are tailored to what you want or need to work on. They combine both mat and the studio equipment. The main pieces of equipment are the Reformer, Cadillac, chair and Ladder Barrel. These machines work with springs, ropes and different settings, which are altered to suit your ability and what you want to work on.
These classes are run from Pilates on the Green, Wallingford. Telephone directly for appointments 01491 826286

WHAT IS PILATES

The Pilates method is named after Joseph Pilates who invented and developed it at the beginning of the 20th century.  He did this originally to strengthen his own body by using his experience of martial arts, yoga, boxing and acrobatics, he then started to teach his own method and soon had a dedicated following.

He developed an incredible array of unique spring based studio equipment while working first in an intern camp during the Great War (WW1) and later in his studio in New York.

PILATES METHOD EVOLVED

Since then the method has continued to grow alongside the most current research into movement and exercise.

CORE PRINCIPLES

The core principles of the method are based on the following elements being combined in a session.

RELAXATION

BREATHING

ALIGNMENT

CONCENTRATION

CENTRING

COORDINATION

FLOWING MOVEMENT

STAMINA

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS

HOW DOES IT WORK

It works on the deep structure of the body achieving 'core stability' Regular practice will help to maintain this and build on it. Pilates is suitable for all ages, people of all levels of fitness, women, men and children.
